In recent developments, the World Health Organization (WHO) recommended that immunocompromised people be given an additional dose of the coronavirus vaccine. It further stated that due to their higher risk of breakthrough infections after standard immunisation they should be provided with an additional dose.According to reports, the Strategic Advisory Group of Experts on immunisation said the additional dose should be offered "as part of an extended primary series since these individuals are less likely to respond adequately to vaccination following a standard primary vaccine series and are at high risk of severe COVID-19 disease".On the other hand, Coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in the city of Mumbai have reduced in the last few months, and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has been working relentlessly to vaccinate citizens in Mumbai. Vaccination centres, drives and several initiatives have been planned so far, to ensure citizens get vaccinated at ease, without facing obstacles.Data released by the BMC reveals that the civic body administered more than 25 lakh vaccine doses in September, and this has been highest since March 2021, when the vaccination began in the city. As of September 28, 2021, the BMC had administered 2,530,145 doses of COVID vaccine of which, over 1 million were at private hospitals, more than 410,000 at centres run by BMC and others are government hospitals.
